If I don’t update this for a while, the aliens must have got me….

This weekend we are running a half marathon along the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada, near Area 51. The race starts at midnight, under the full moon (well, almost). There is a full marathon, too, but that sounds a little crazy ;) You might think that I surf the Internet looking for crazy adventures to go on, but the truth is, most of them find me. This particular adventure was instigated by “The Other Jeff”, a ruthenium level Marathon Maniac who posts the most delightfully, colorful and lengthy musings on the LVM21 message board. I got to meet TOJ and his wife Linda when they visited Washington for the San Juan Island Marathon. TOJ and another Maniac named Matt were completing their 4th marathon in 9 days (and 3 states) which is how they got to the ruthenium level. These guys have an interesting sense of fun. When TOJ posted about the “ET Full Moon Midnight Marathon”, I checked the airfare, and then committed. Knowing that Mr Diva thinks there are no bad reasons to go to Nevada, this was an easy sell.

Since then quite a few people from the LVM 21 board have signed up. Osmium level Maniac, Ginger26.2 will be joining us for the half, along with her friend Steffen. It will be fun to see them again, and to meet the people that we’ve only “posted” with. It is going to be quite a party. Well, as much of a party as you can have while running through the desert, dodging rattlesnakes and other “crawly things” in the middle of the night. I hope it leaves me with a good story to tell. You should hope so, too!

While I’m out running from aliens and rattlesnakes, be sure to check out Paul Merca’s blog. Paul is one of the nicest people on the planet. He is currently in Osaka, Japan covering the IAAF World Championships. When he isn’t writing about world famous elite athletes, he writes the occasional tale about regular people who run with Nike+. If you are surprised that I know such important persons, so am I!

    Jody,

Let’s see, what’s an appropriate send off? “May the Force be with you?” Nah, too corny. “DD, phone home?” Ditto. “Ack, ack; ack ack ack”? (think Martian Attacks). Nothing seems right. So I guess “Have an awesome race!” will have to do.

    :)

Sounds like a great time. I love corny runs. I am gearing up for the Cheesehead half marathon in Wisconsin. Love the blog.

Diva–Thanks for the nice comments, and for following the men’s marathon this morning here in Osaka.

As you’re sleeping, I am here in the press room getting notes ready for tonight’s session, which includes the women’s 10k.

    Have fun at your race!
