Virtual Reality

One of the great things about running is meeting other runners and making new friends. I have been lucky to meet a lot of great people via the Las Vegas Marathon message board, and the Nike+ forums and challenges. Last December, I met one of my “virtual friends” while we were both vacationing in Hawaii. We ran a 5K race together. A few days later, I met other friends from the Las Vegas Marathon message board at “The Great Santa Run”, where we dressed in Santa costumes and tried to set a Guinness record. In March we took a trip to Orange County, where I got to meet and run with yet another online friend. It is great to know that no matter where I go, I might be able to meet up with one or more of my online friends to go for a run.

The one place I have trouble finding friends to run with is at home. This weekend i had the opportunity to meet some of my online friends from the Nike+ forums at Green Lake. It was totally worth the drive to Seattle to get to meet “Monk_monkey” and Paul Merca. Getting to run around Green Lake was the icing on the cake!

If only I could meet a few Snohomish runners!

    Hey Diva–My pleasure!

BTW, if Monk’s reading this, that’s an awesome t-shirt!

    Diva,
It was so fun meeting you! I think Paul did a great job with our action shot, our feet aren’t even touching the ground. That’s how cool we are.

We’ll get together for a race soon, I’m sure! A 2:05 finish at Seafair is totally doable! Train for hills!

I just realized something…your feet & legs are synchronized!

I noticed that too Paul. It’s no surprise, Monk and I are always in step with each other. We were neck and neck in the “Race for your city” challenge, and now we are both really close to 1000 Nike+ miles.

The article’s out…just got my copy this evening!

BTW, the photo above is the one we used for the article!

    Thanks again!

Although it will be tough to make it to Snohomish on weeknights, perhaps sometime we can meet up for a weekend run. The only caveat is I’m training for the marathon, so every other weekend I’m doing a really long run. But those are interspersed with 6-7 milers, so let me know if you’re up for that. And I’m always up for running Greenlake (we live just 2 blocks away, after all!) In fact, you’ll have to check out my blog soon for photos of my Greenlake run (it’s an idea I got from another blogging friend where you take photos along your favorite route).

I would love to come down and run with you at Green Lake! I checked out your marathon schedule. I see you have an 8 mile Saturday coming up soon. I think I could join you for that. Let me know if that works for you, and we can coordinate the details by e-mail!

[...] With so many opportunities to run with so many great people, it would be tempting to say my week couldn’t get any better, but that would be wrong. On Wednesday, I got an e-mail from Nike, inviting me to a Nike+ Super User’s Summit at their Beaverton headquarters. I am happy to report that Monk_Monkey (see Virtual Reality post), will be joining me there, along with several other runners I have met online through Nike+ challenges, but never in person. I’m sure that will lead to a very long post in July! Permalink [...]
