These are the races I hope to run after I retire:
- Moscow International Peace Marathon - Moscow, Russia
- Tahiti Moorea Marathon, French Polynesia
- White Nights Marathon - St. Petersburg, Russia
I hope to celebrate my retirement with a week in Honolulu, followed by a week in Tahiti, where we will run the marathon. We watched a video of it at a marathon expo, and were hooked. It is mostly a trail marathon, and appears to be quite hilly. The goal is to run it in 2016, so I better start training!
After I’ve had my fun in Tahiti, I want to come home a devote some time to studying the Russian language. When I’m satisfied with my linguistic skills, I want to travel to St. Petersburg and Moscow. From what I’ve read, the St. Petersburg marathon offers the most interesting course. The Moscow course is a triple loop that starts in front of St. Basil’s Cathedral and takes you past the Kremlin. It sounds quite spectacular, but reviewers indicate that it loses some of its charm on the third loop. The St. Petersburg marathon is in June, the Moscow event is in September. I can’t run both, but I will visit both cities.
